Over 100 million people, comprising at bare minimum 15 million children, currently employ e-cigarettes, fueling a new wave of nicotine habit, per recent international public health data.

Youth are, typically, nine times more prone than grown-ups to use e-cigarettes, per current worldwide figures.

E-cigarettes are fueling a "fresh wave" of nicotine habit, commented a leading health official. "These devices are advertised as harm reduction but, truthfully, are ensnaring youth on nicotine sooner and threaten undermining years of progress."

Young People Being 'Focused On'

"Millions of citizens are stopping, or avoiding tobacco consumption thanks to tobacco control measures by nations throughout the planet," the representative stated.

"As a reaction to this significant advancement, the tobacco industry is pushing back with recent nicotine products, actively focusing on youth. Authorities must act more rapidly and stronger in applying established tobacco-control measures," the representative continued.

The vaping numbers are an approximation since several countries - 109 in sum, and many in Africa and South-East Asia - lack data.

According to the study, as of recent February this year, at bare minimum 86 million e-cigarette consumers were grown-ups, mainly in developed countries.

And at least 15 million teenagers between the ages of 13 and 15 currently use e-cigarettes, per research from 123 states.

Even though numerous countries have attempted to establish e-cigarette policies to tackle youth vaping in recent years, by the close of 2024, 62 states still had no regulation in operation, and 74 countries had no minimum age at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be purchased, reports the medical organization.

Simultaneously, tobacco usage has been declining - from an estimated 1.38 billion consumers in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Occurrence of tobacco consumption among females decreased the most - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

With males, the decrease was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But a fifth of adults internationally still consumes tobacco.

Smoking is connected to numerous illnesses, like cancer.

Experts claim vaping is far less dangerous than traditional cigarettes, and can help you stop smoking. It is discouraged for individuals who avoid tobacco.

Electronic cigarettes eliminate burning tobacco and do not produce resin or toxic gas, a couple of the most damaging substances in tobacco smoke. They include nicotine, which may be dependency-creating.
