Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
